Missing

I am sitting in the front room,
rocking slowly as sun bathes
half my body in light.

A purple blanket rests
on the arm to my left-
reminiscent of the strength I lacked
almost a month since it was draped
around convulsions at goodbye.

I watch him leave-
trash bags full of laundry
& an uncovered pillow,
expressing my love-
following thanks,
knowing earlier comfort
can’t compensate for reoccurring empty.
